Rain and Water Havoc in India: Current Situation in North India, Financial Investments, and River Management Strategies
Rain Havoc in North India 2025: Floods, Investments, and River ManagementThe 2025 monsoon has unleashed chaos across North India, with Uttar Pradesh flooding submerging 1,018 villages along the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, claiming 268 lives. Uttarakhand landslides and Punjab floods, driven by swollen Ravi and Sutlej rivers, displaced thousands, while Jammu and Kashmir floods and Himachal Pradesh rainfall caused significant damage, with losses of ₹2,200 crore ($262 million). States have invested over ₹5,000 crore ($600 million) in flood control investments, including embankments and drainage under schemes like Namami Gange and Jal Jeevan Mission. India’s water crisis, worsened by climate change, demands robust river management strategies like rainwater harvesting, sponge cities, and AI-driven monitoring to manage rivers like the Brahmaputra and ensure sustainable water use.
