In a shocking incident that has highlighted the dangers of unresolved relationship conflicts, a 39-year-old staff nurse at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in Bengaluru was allegedly murdered by her 25-year-old junior colleague on December 24-25, 2025.
The victim, Mamatha H.L. (also reported as Mamata or Mamta), was found dead in her rented home in Pragathipura, Kumaraswamy Layout, with her throat slit. Bengaluru police swiftly arrested the accused, identified as C. Sudhakar, a fellow nurse at the same hospital.

Details of the Incident
Mamatha, originally from Hiriyur in Chitradurga district, had been working as a contract nurse at Jayadeva Hospital for several years. She shared her rented accommodation with a roommate. According to police investigations, Mamatha and Sudhakar had been in a romantic relationship for about a year. However, tensions escalated when Mamatha insisted on marriage, only to discover that Sudhakar had recently become engaged to another woman arranged by his family. On the night of the incident, Sudhakar visited Mamatha’s home while her roommate was away.

A heated argument reportedly ensued over the engagement and marriage demands. In a fit of rage, Sudhakar allegedly used a kitchen knife to slit her throat, causing instant death.
To mislead investigators and stage the crime as a robbery, he reportedly took her gold chain before fleeing the scene. The crime came to light on December 25 morning when the roommate, concerned about Mamatha’s unresponsiveness, alerted the landlady. Peering through a window, they spotted Mamatha lying in a pool of blood. Police were immediately informed, and Mamatha’s brother filed a formal complaint.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
The Kumaraswamy Layout police registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder. Acting on leads, they arrested Sudhakar within hours on December 25 evening. He was produced before a court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
The murder weapon—a kitchen knife—is yet to be recovered, and investigations continue to verify Sudhakar’s statements.
