Mumbai, India’s bustling financial capital, has been placed on high alert following a disturbing WhatsApp message received by the Mumbai Traffic Police, warning of multiple terror attacks during the grand finale of the 10-day Ganesh festival. The message, claiming to be from a group called “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” alleged that 34 vehicles rigged with “human bombs” and 400 kg of RDX were set to “shake the entire city.” It further claimed that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India to execute the attack, with the potential to “kill 1 crore people.”

The threat, received on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi (September 6, 2025), has prompted an immediate response from Mumbai Police, with security beefed up across the city. The Crime Branch and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) are investigating, conducting combing operations at sensitive locations, and urging citizens to remain vigilant while dismissing rumors. A senior police official noted that the threat appears to be a hoax but emphasized that no risks are being taken, given the timing during one of Mumbai’s most significant festivals.

This incident follows a pattern of recent hoax threats in the region, including a false bomb scare at a Thane railway station earlier this week and another targeting Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in July. While no suspicious objects have been found so far, the city remains on edge as authorities work to trace the sender and ensure public safety.

Mumbai Police have appealed to residents to report any suspicious activity and stay calm as the Ganesh festival culminates with grand immersion processions.

The city’s resilience is being tested once again, but as history shows, Mumbai’s spirit remains unbroken in the face of such threats.
