In a small kitchen in Meghalaya, the aroma of freshly pounded turmeric fills the air as a traveller is sharing a simple home-cooked meal with her local host. Around her, conversations flow in Khasi, laughter punctuates the meal, and stories of the land’s rivers, forests, and traditions weave a picture far richer than any guidebook could offer.
This is not just a meal — it’s a connection. And it’s moments like these that define TRIS Travels.
The Founder’s Journey
I’m Rose, founder of TRIS Travels, and my work is rooted in the values I learned from my grandmother — a woman who never studied business but mastered the language of kindness, hospitality, and sharing.
She welcomed strangers like family, cooked for guests with love, and made sure no one left empty-stomach. Armed with a background in Travel & Tourism, an MBA, and a deep love for my homeland, I wanted to build something that would let travellers truly experience Meghalaya and Northeast India — not just see it. TRIS Travels was born to do exactly that: to design journeys that create joy for travellers and tangible benefits for the communities they visit

- Homestays & Community Lodges – Carefully chosen for safety, comfort, and cultural richness, so guests can live like locals.
- Local Guides – Storytellers, naturalists, and cultural ambassadors who reveal hidden corners and living traditions.
- Artisans & Producers – We connect travellers with craftspeople, farmers, and food producers. Many guests receive locally made creations as gifts, and soon they’ll be able to purchase these products directly through an exclusive page on our website. Soon, we’ll launch a website section where local service providers can register with us, opening the door for more community collaborations.
- Local Experiences & Activities – From women-led home-cooked meals in village kitchens to traditional dancers, storytellers, local massage, caving guides, trekking leaders, and keepers of hidden waterfalls, our network is built on trust and authenticity.
- Trusted Drivers – Local drivers who know the land, its stories, and the safest routes. With every booking, our travellers directly or indirectly touch at least 10 livelihoods — ensuring tourism dollars flow where they’re needed most.
